1.What capacity rice harvester do I need for 10 acres of paddy? |
It depends on how many times need to be taken to finish those 10 acres harvesting. The 4LZ-5.0 machine can harvest 0.5-1 acre/hour averagely, so it takes 10-20 hours to finish 10 acres, about 1-3 days working. As our experience, the 5.0-6.0kg/s capacity machine is more balance choice on working capacity with fuel consumption. |
2.Which machines are suitable for wet paddy fields vs dry paddy fields? |
Generally speaking the crawler type machine is suitable for wet paddy field, both crawler type and wheel type are suitable for dry fields. If muddy depth too big, wheel type machine will be swamped. However the wheel type can run fast and more suitable for dry field. |
3.When is the right time to harvest paddy using a harvester? |
A sunny noon time after the paddy are mature to the golden yellow color, rice ears droop down. |
4.What should be the moisture content of paddy before using a harvester? |
Usually the moisture content range from 20%-25%, depends on variety and weather. It's hard to thresh if the moisture is too high, and the broken rate will be high if the moisture is too low. |
5.What field preparation is needed before a harvester comes in (leveling, bund removal, straw management)? |
The first and most important preparation is drain water by irrigation ditch or pump. Usually it should be done 1-2 weeks before the harvest. It's better to make the field dryer to maximum 2-3cm muddy depth. The second thing is clear the field from stone, wood, branch, metal, hard solid and other hard object. Then leveling the ridge about 3 meters so that machine can go cross. And cut the four angle paddy so that the machine can easily turn around. |
6.Is it okay to harvest during early morning/dew / night? |
It's better not do that. Because in harvest season, the temperature between day and night is too big, so there are full of dew onto the paddy, when they feed inside harvester, the straw and paddy and muddy will mix and stick together, so that the performance is too bad, machine may broken by feeding block. Meanwhile the sight is not clear in the early morning or night time. It's not good for field situation judgement. |
7.How many acres per hour/day can a given combine/haverter accomplish in Indian conditions? |
The harvester working efficiency depends on acre yield, muddy field situation, driver skill, field parcel. Usually a 4LZ-5.0 machine can harvest 0.5-1 acre. As we know that the south India such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, the muddy depth is more deeper than north, the irrigation situation is not so good, so that the working efficiency may lower. |
8.How many labour hours does a harvester save compared to manual/machine-plus-labour harvesting? |
For the paddy harvest, 0.5-1 acre/hour for a 4LZ-5.0 rice combine harvester, and 0.01-0.017 acre/hour for a human labour harvest. So that 1 machine+1 driver harvesting efficiency = 50-60 human labour efficiency. In addition to saving labor cost, using a combine harvester significantly reduces grain loss compared to manual harvesting. |
9.Hire vs own: is it better to rent a harvester rather than buy? |
Generally speaking if you have very stable harvesting areas to fully working in the season, it's better to buy your own machine. Of else it's better to hire. |
